In Memoriam of Mark Cameron.
It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of Mark Cameron, P.S. Mark passed away October 27, 2024 after a brief illness.
Mark was a beloved colleague, mentor, and friend to many and a true inspiration to us all. He will be deeply missed. Not only is this a huge loss to the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction community, but to his family, friends, and business associates near and far.
Mark began his career in the engineering and surveying industry in 1972. He attended both Columbus State and The Ohio State University. During the first 28 years he refined his abilities while employed at Bischoff & Associates, obtaining a Professional Surveyor’s license in 1991.
In 1999 he decided to form his own firm and in January 2000 he opened CPS Consulting Group, providing civil engineering and surveying services to his clients. To build a stronger alliance and provide a greater depth of service to their clients, Mark and two of his engineering friends merged their two firms together in 2007 forming Sands Decker CPS. In 2018 the company was rebranded and the firm is now known as Sands Decker.
While Mark’s background in the engineering and surveying industry has primarily been in Municipal and Public Works projects, he provided design services and project management for several Higher Education projects. He gained a reputation for solid problem solving and providing a “hands on” approach with all his client’s projects.
During his time away from the office Mark could be found spending as much time as possible with the love of his life, Randa. He enjoyed golfing and hunting, and loved riding his vintage 1983 Harley Davidson (which he bought new), or his latest addition to the garage, a Low Rider “El Diablo.”
Weekends were spent mostly outdoors. Mark was an avid beekeeper, having managed as many as 31 hives, which provided him 1st and 2nd place trophies at the Ohio State Fair and other local beekeeping competitions. Mark always enjoyed talking about honey bees.
Not too long ago, when asked about his thoughts on the staff and the firm, he had this to say, “I’m proud to say that our staff is at the top of the performance bar! It is with pride that we have created such an environment for each of our staff to succeed, in both their personal growth and the ability to meet the needs of our clients.”
We were so fortunate to work alongside Mark, to call him a friend, and for the major role he played in Sands Decker. Please keep Mark’s family and friends in your thoughts during this difficult time. In observance of Mark’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral at this time. A celebration of life is being planned for a future date.
